The lived experience of work and city rhythms: A rhythmanalysis of London's Square Mile

Seminar abstract

Louise will be introducing her recently published monograph, which is based on empirical research carried out over a number of years in the City of London – the heart of the UK’s financial services sector. Explaining how the City is experienced as a workplace, the book presents a method of researching such places through an attention to, and analysis of, their spatial and temporal rhythms. We are delighted to welcome Philip Hubbard, Professor of Geography at Kings College, The University of London, Patricia Lewis, Professor of Management at Kent Business School, the University of Kent, and Dawn Lyon, Reader in Sociology at the University of Kent, who will act as panel discussants.

Speaker bio

Dr Louise Nash is a lecturer in organisation studies within the OSHRM group, Essex Business School, The University of Essex. Her research interests are in interpretative, qualitative studies of the lived experience of work, particularly in the spatial and temporal rhythms of everyday working life, and in exploring and developing sensory methods of research.
